My first trip to Datong, I came with an anticipation for the ancient city, but unexpectedly, a Siheyuan B&B (courtyard guesthouse) stole my heart and became a lasting favorite.
Jiuheli is tucked away in the most central location, right by the South Gate of the ancient city. It’s an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle. Instead of towering buildings, it's a traditional Siheyuan with one ground floor and two underground levels. The grey bricks, dark tiles, wooden corridors, and expansive courtyard with dappled light seamlessly blend the elegance of traditional Chinese architecture with modern living comfort and exquisite, delicate design.
The entire guesthouse has only 9 rooms, each named poetically: Luxi, Weiyu, Xianzhou, Hewan, Chunxiu, Rimu, Yunting, Wushi, Qinghe. They are few but refined, quiet but beautiful, offering a sense of peace the moment you step in.
I stayed in Luxi. The name is inspired by ”Zhanzhan Lusi, Feiyang Buxi” from the Book of Songs, evoking the clear and gentle morning dew. Stepping out, you're in the courtyard, and the floor-to-ceiling windows bring natural light and greenery indoors. It's quiet, spacious, and private, free from noise, only offering relaxation. The room features smart home controls, luxurious bedding, high-quality toiletries, and thoughtful details that are just right. It's simple yet sophisticated, comfortable yet effortless, with delightful surprises at every turn.
Every day spent here was filled with warmth. Gentle breezes in the courtyard in the morning, quiet tea sips in the afternoon, watching the ancient city sunset in the evening, and soft lamplight at night. The outside world's buzz is gently kept at bay, while your inner self feels endlessly healed and content. There's no complicated dining here, but that's perfectly fine because just a few steps away are the ancient city's time-honored eateries and vibrant local life. This allows you to truly immerse yourself in Datong's rhythm of life, feeling free, relaxed, and at ease.
The housekeeper is discreet and never intrusive, yet always thoughtfully attentive. Welcome fruit, hot tea, meticulous care – no over-the-top service, but you always feel valued and well-treated.
Meeting Jiuheli on my first visit to Datong was truly a stroke of luck. Comfortable, quiet, stylish, and warm – the perfect experience, elegant surroundings, and heartfelt details made the entire trip exceptionally fulfilling.
Next time I come to Datong, I will undoubtedly choose this place again. And I sincerely recommend Jiuheli to every first-time visitor to Datong. Stay once, and you'll understand that the best travel isn't about ticking off sights, but about finding peace of mind. And for peace of mind, Jiuheli is the place.

DDafeieThe room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

The housekeeper took the initiative to contact before departure to confirm the arrival time. Just out of the high-speed rail station, the housekeeper is already waiting, and he enthusiastically introduced the customs of Datong along the way, instantly eliminating the fatigue of the journey.
When we arrived at the hotel to put down our luggage, the housekeeper did not let us blindly stroll around, but asked us if we had any plans to browse the attractions, and patiently helped us plan the tour route. From the best viewing spots of the ancient city wall, to the nearby authentic restaurants, to the guide of Yungang Grottoes, every detail is explained clearly, it is simply a private customized guide, let us worry and save effort.
The most surprising thing was the special breakfast the next morning! It's not the same buffet in the hotel at all, but the authentic local flavor. The hot pasta is accompanied by refreshing side dishes. I feel that the whole morning is full of energy. This is the experience that Datong should have.
In short, from pick-up to farewell, the butler's service is always thoughtful and meticulous. If you also want to come to Datong to feel the charm of the ancient capital, it is correct to choose here, and the experience is directly full!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

BBoluomitangThe environment here is great. It's located within the ancient city but away from the super crowded areas, so it's really quiet at night. The only downside is that cars aren't allowed in the ancient city, so dragging luggage can be a bit of a walk. The courtyard is perfect for a chat and a cup of tea; it's quite tranquil.
The service was very good. You can tell they put a lot of thought into everything; it's all very refined. The afternoon tea was lovely, and both the dried apricots and mandarins were delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between lamb offal soup with rice noodles or刀削面 (daoxiao mian - knife-cut noodles).
The facilities are quite comprehensive, with a coffee machine and a disposable bathtub liner. However, there's still room for improvement. The air conditioning in the room works, but it can make the air quite dry. The water heater is electric, and it's a bit tricky to get the hot and cold water balance just right. If two people shower consecutively, the next person has to wait quite a while.
Overall, it's still a good place to stay. It's very convenient for exploring the ancient city, and it's not far to take a taxi to the grottoes.

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

CChunfengfumiandouzhuomaoEnvironment: I was originally going to stay at Hampton when I traveled to Datong, but Hampton was fully booked every day and I couldn't book it. Then I searched and carefully selected this Mercure. It is next to the shopping mall, and it is super convenient to eat and drink takeout. It is also very close to Fantawild Ancient City. The price is more practical than Hampton, and it is not a pitfall at all. The hardware and software facilities, service and breakfast are all very good. When checking in at the lobby, children can stamp the combination seal, which is very interesting and beautiful.
Originally, I was going to stay for one day and go somewhere else the next day. Later, because I didn't leave at Fantawild too late, I extended it for another day. After returning, I took the initiative to upgrade the room.
The breakfast is delicious. I eat with my children every morning and feel satisfied. I go out to play with full energy. I will stay at Mercure next time I come to Datong. I am so satisfied!

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
