Luxury Hotels in Datong

"Shortly after booking the hotel, I was added to a concierge service group, and they contacted us in advance. The hotel is located within the ancient city, just a 2-minute walk from the Dongnanyi business district. Huayan Temple and Daiwang Mansion are also nearby, making it incredibly convenient for getting around! The hotel's style is perfect for photos, and the bedding is clean and high-quality, which is great for someone as particular as me. The hotel has its own Yungang Art Museum for guests to visit, and every staff member, from the front desk to the back office, was polite and courteous. In the afternoon, they provided tea, snacks, and dried fruits, and for late-night returns, there was a sweet pear soup – every detail was meticulously thought out. Breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, including salmon, steak, and sliced noodles. During the May Day holiday, there were Guzheng performances and fire pot shows in the evening. It was a very pleasant stay!"

"The hotel was new and the rooms were clean, but the service was terrible! We arrived at the front desk at night, and there were three or four staff members standing there laughing and joking. After I showed my ID, they told me that someone had already checked me in?! It turned out that after a long discussion, they realized it was because a man with the same name as me had booked the same room type, and they gave him the room I had booked in advance (I had noted that I didn't want the last room and wanted it away from the elevator)?! Such a big hotel?! Don't they even check the information when registering guests? The phone numbers are different, and the genders are different too?! While I was standing at the front desk late at night waiting for them to resolve the issue, the receptionist kept yelling about what to do about the man's booking?! Where was I supposed to stand?! She didn't even apologize, and she was yelling at me about the wrong booking!! Am I supposed to fix her problem? Is this how you train your staff for such a big hotel? And this is supposed to be number one on the luxury list? Is this the level of service you're providing? Don't tell me it's because there are too many guests during the Chinese New Year. If you're so busy during the holidays, how could you make a mistake checking guest information? After making me stand for at least ten minutes, they finally gave me a room. They even gave me a last-minute room near the elevator! When I saw this, I called the front desk, and they said, ”Oh, all the rooms you booked are last-minute rooms?” Why didn't you write on the booking page that all City View Suites are last-minute rooms? It felt like the staff didn't know what they were doing; the service was completely disproportionate to the hotel's quality! Oh, and by the way, the laundry room was closed during the New Year period, and they didn't mention this at all when I messaged customer service during booking. 😃 The score is for cleanliness and hotel infrastructure; service is zero."

"Stayed for 3 nights, 4 days. The hotel is conveniently located and features a traditional Chinese decor, with a spacious and bright lobby. The high-floor views are excellent, and the overall experience was fantastic. Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary late-night snack and fresh fruit daily. Room service was very attentive; housekeeping and food delivery were both great. Since Datong has been quite dry lately, they even provided pear soup daily. The breakfast selection was extensive, and the lamb offal noodles were particularly delicious. I would definitely choose Howard Johnson again on my next visit to Datong."

"Traveling to Datong with my parents and children, as soon as we got out of the car, a security guard (Shi Lei) opened the door for us, insisting we didn't touch it ourselves. The lobby manager also seamlessly took our luggage. Maybe it wasn't peak season yet, but check-in was smooth. However, I didn't see the welcome fruit mentioned in other reviews. We bought some fruit ourselves, and the staff helped peel it and sent it back to our room. We could also ask for more bottled water if needed. Since we were going to the Hanging Temple the next day, we requested a packed breakfast with bread and milk, which was enough to fill us up. On the third day, the breakfast in the restaurant was very rich. I'd like to commend the ladies in the restaurant (Zhang Xiaoqing, Cao Xiaolin) as well; seeing that my child hadn't eaten much, they even offered to pack a bread for us. The complimentary bathhouse tickets weren't wasted either; it wasn't crowded, and it felt much more satisfying than showering in the room. After the bath, the ladies (Zhang Limei, Jiang Jinlian) brought us water and towels; they were so enthusiastic. Overall, all the staff members were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the facilities are a bit dated, I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong."

"Datong Yungang Hotel Review I've stayed in many five-star hotels, but Datong Yungang Hotel consistently ranks at the top for me. It truly lives up to its reputation as the best in the area. The overall decor is grand and stylish, with spacious and luxurious interiors that strike a perfect balance between opulence and elegance, without being over-the-top. The pricing is very reasonable, offering excellent value for money. The service is thoughtful and meticulous. The staff are responsive and attentive, making the entire experience comfortable. Room cleanliness is impeccable; every corner and all the linens are spotless and tidy. The breakfast buffet offers a vast selection, including a wide array of meats, vegetables, pastries, desserts, and local specialties, all of which taste great. The location is a major plus, less than two kilometers from Datong Ancient City, making it very convenient for exploring the area. Considering the comprehensive quality of its facilities, service, price, and location, it's definitely worth a second visit. This is my top recommendation for accommodation when visiting Datong!"

"The environment is quite good, and the amenities in the room, such as the smart speaker system throughout and the smart toilet, are very convenient. However, the service doesn't match the environment. Breakfast was chaotic; there was no one to guide us to a table, and we couldn't find chopsticks until we asked for them. They mentioned complimentary bathhouse and swimming tickets, but the women's area in the basement only has a pool for swimming. The 'bathhouse' consists of just two bathtubs, which require an extra charge to use. It's quite pointless; they might as well just say there's a swimming pool. The Fenglin Pavilion restaurant on the first floor is excellent."

"I forgot to leave a review before, but even though the facilities aren't top-notch, the environment was quite peaceful. I'm not sure if it was because I requested a quiet room when booking, but our three rooms were on a floor where there were indeed no noisy drunkards or unruly children. Being able to get a good rest makes it a decent hotel. Some hotels, despite having great facilities, have terrible management, which is pointless... Breakfast was average; the lamb offal soup was pretty good, but you can't expect too much from breakfast at this level of hotel. Both service and breakfast were pretty standard, and overall, it wasn't a rip-off."

"Staying at Ruifeng Tower was definitely the best decision for our Datong trip! The hotel is located right in the heart of the ancient city, within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, making it super convenient. The rooms have an antique charm, and when you open the window, you're greeted with the sight of traditional courtyards and intricate eaves. What truly delighted me were the books in the room. Reading them before bed, the glory of Pingcheng during the Northern Wei Dynasty and the prosperity of the Liao and Jin secondary capitals came alive on the pages, adding a wonderful cultural depth to our journey. The breakfast buffet was abundant, and the staff were warm and professional. Next time I'm in Datong, I'll definitely choose Ruifeng Tower again, to immerse myself in the unique charm of this ancient capital amidst its scholarly ambiance and historic beauty!"

"The hotel was well located. The room exactly like it was described online. We reserved two rooms without windows for one day it was cost efficient! Unfortunately I could not reserve directly 4 breakfast online only two (one per room), we have to pay directly at breakfast for the two others one. We stop at Datong to visited one of UNESCO site and see the all Datong city. We thought more foreigners will visit this beautiful small city. No one speaks English (and that’s ok) but for a 4 stars hotel the front desk lady looks a bit lost with the check in procedure for foreigners (and I work in a 5 stars hotel in beijing so I know the procedure as a French working in China). Also, the isolation is bad, the front desk already inform us upon check in but we did not thought we will heard even the other room bathrooms flush. Thank you for this night your hotel is beautiful"

"Our stay was absolutely fantastic! From the airport pick-up, to checking in, and all the way to checking out, everything was smooth and pleasant. All the staff, from those handling the airport transfers, to the front desk, housekeeping, and other services, were incredibly warm and caring. You could really feel their genuine dedication to service and their passion for working at Nian Xia (Summer in the Southeast). The room itself was great too, with welcome fruits and all the amenities you could need. It's also super convenient for getting around and finding places to eat. Plus, with your room key, you get free entry to the Nian Xia Art Museum, which features INART and Tiankai sculptures – absolutely amazing!"
