What is a Hong Kong Visa for Indian Travellers?
Indian citizens travelling to Hong Kong for a short duration, for example, a business meeting or holiday, do not need a Hong Kong visa.
Pre-Arrival Registration (PAR)
- You must complete Pre-Arrival Registration (PAR) to visit visa-free for 14 days. Without the PAR slip, you will not be allowed to enter the HKSAR.
- The PAR is valid for multiple entries for six months. It allows Indian travellers to make multiple short visits without needing to register every time.
- Important Note: PAR is not an official visa. A Hong Kong Pre-arrival Registration (PAR) is a free, fast online digital authorisation for Indian passport holders that allows them visa-free short visits up to 14 days. On the other hand, a standard Hong Kong visa requires detailed documentation, processing time, and fees. It is mandatory for long stays, employment, or if the applicant is ineligible for PAR.
When Will Indian Travellers Require a Hong Kong Visa?
As an Indian passport holder, if you are travelling to Hong Kong for reasons beyond tourism or short business meetings, for instance, employment or study, you will need a Hong Kong visa.
Visa Extension
Indian travellers who intend to stay beyond 14 days can apply for an extension with Hong Kong’s Immigration Department. However, the Immigration Department does not guarantee the approval of extension.
Hong Kong Visa for Indian Travellers Eligibility Criteria
Indian passport holders must apply for and complete pre-arrival registration online before they can visit HKSAR visa-free. Indian nationals who are in direct air transit and not leaving the airport transit area do not need Pre-arrival Registration. They can use the online service to apply for pre-arrival registration free of charge if they:
- Hold an Indian passport valid for at least six months.
- Want to visit or transit (except in direct air transit without leaving the airport transit area) the HKSAR for a stay that doesn’t exceed 14 days.
Pre-arrival registration does not apply to Indian nationals who have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong, are on unconditional stay in Hong Kong or have a valid permission to remain in Hong Kong for employment, study or residence.
Subject to meeting normal immigration conditions, some categories of Indian nationals may visit Hong Kong without PAR. These include:
- Holders of a valid Indian diplomatic or official passport.
- Holders of a UN Laissez-Passer coming to Hong Kong or transiting Hong Kong to/from a third place for official UN business.

Documents Required for a Hong Kong Visa/PAR for Indian Travellers
Requirements vary slightly by visa type. But generally, you will need:
- A valid Indian passport with a minimum of 6 months’ validity from your date of entry.
- A recent passport-size photograph.
- Confirmed return or onward flight tickets.
- Proof of accommodation.
- Proof of adequate funds to cover your stay (the application commonly requires bank statements).
- A duly filled visa application form (for full visa applications only).
For Business Visits: An invitation letter from the host company in Hong Kong
For Employment or Student Visas: Extra documents such as the job contract, bank statements, savings passbooks or scholarship letters showing sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs without working, and a sponsorship letter, or an admission letter from the educational institution.

The price, in my opinion, is a bit high, but this is Hong Kong—you have to be prepared for local prices. 😄
We took the bus back—the bus station is very close, so getting back after the walk was very convenient. Overall, The Peak is a place that I'll definitely remember for its atmosphere and views of the city.

I was able to book it for free thanks to my Trip.com Diamond Plus membership benefits.
The boarding point is at the end of the Central pier, but I took a taxi, so I arrived easily. The ship arrived at the pier just before departure time.
While waiting for the ship, I was a little worried because there were no staff members at the pier, but when the ship arrived, there were about 5-6 staff members who had been on board and safely guided us onto the ship.
There were plenty of seats inside the ship, so I could sit comfortably. I was able to get a seat at the front of the ship.
On the open deck, I could feel the pleasant breeze, and the view was fantastic. I was able to enjoy the night view from Hong Kong to the Kowloon side.
The ship's design is also quite nice, reminiscent of an old junk ship. Many other ships have modern designs, so this ship had a distinct Hong Kong feel to it, which was great.

- The first step is to visit the GovHK website to complete the pre-arrival registration.
- You should enter the correct information truthfully. The information should fully match the information in your Indian passport.
Registration Processing
- After entering the required information, the system auto-processes the registration. Once processed, you will instantly receive the registration result.
- After applying for the registration, you must print the “Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals” (the notification slip) that the computer system generates on a blank sheet of A4 white paper.
Sign the Notification Slip
- Next, you must sign the notification slip.
- However, before signing it, you must check the data you’ve entered on the notification slip to confirm its accuracy as per the passport.
Use the Notification Slip
- Further, you must use the notification slip in conjunction with the specific Indian passport linked to the pre-arrival registration.
Important Points to Remember
- If you renew or replace your passport or change your personal particulars after pre-arrival registration, you must re-apply based on the new passport or personal particulars.
- For applicants under 16 years of age, either their parent or legal guardian must check the entered data and sign the slip.
- If you couldn’t complete the pre-arrival registration, you must apply for an entry visa to the Immigration Department directly.
Is there a Hong Kong Visa-on-Arrival for Indians?
- Hong Kong does not offer visa-on-arrival for Indian passport holders. Therefore, you cannot land in Hong Kong and get a visa stamped at the airport.
- Instead, you must complete Pre-Arrival Registration before departure.
- Once it is approved, you must print the notification slip, carry it with your passport, and present both at immigration counters when you arrive.
- Hence, often, people mistakenly think of PAR as "visa on arrival". The actual clearance happens on arrival. However, the registration must be done beforehand, ideally a few days before your flight.

The location is definitely the biggest strength of Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong. I would give it 5 stars for convenience—it is directly connected to MOKO, which makes it extremely convenient for last-minute shopping, dining and picking up anything you may need. It is also just a short walk from Mong Kok East MTR Station, making it easy to get around Hong Kong.
The room was surprisingly spacious by Hong Kong standards, which was a definite plus for our family. I had accidentally selected the wrong room type when making the booking, but the hotel staff were prompt and helpful when I requested to change from the upgraded King Bed room to a room with two double beds. As the family rooms were already fully booked, they arranged a handicap-accessible room for us instead. It was actually more spacious, so while it wasn't the room type I had originally intended to book, we appreciated the effort to accommodate our needs.
That said, some of the in-room amenities could use an upgrade. In particular, the hairdryer really needs replacing. It became extremely hot very quickly and was uncomfortable to use—I was concerned it might damage or burn my hair.
Overall, I found the hotel comfortable, convenient and well located, with good service and generous room space for Hong Kong. However, having stayed five nights at Intercity Hotel Shenzhen immediately before this, I found Royal Plaza to be a step down in terms of the overall room experience and amenities. This is not to say that Royal Plaza is a poor choice—it is still a solid option, particularly if location, shopping convenience and room size are your priorities.

I'd suggest providing hand soap in the rooms. The restaurant, while not having a huge variety, does make small changes to the menu daily. We stayed at BP International for two nights in the family room as a family, and overall our stay was very pleasant, mainly thanks to its fantastic location. This hotel has an unbeatable spot for travellers visiting Hong Kong. It is easily accessible from West Kowloon Station, which made our arrival and departure stress-free. We did not need to take long taxi rides or navigate complicated public transport after getting off the high-speed rail.
The neighbourhood around the hotel is full of tourist attractions and plenty of dining options. There are countless restaurants, cafes and local eateries just a short walk away, so we never struggled to find meals at any time of day. Conveniently, Jollibee is only two blocks from the hotel entrance, which was a great quick meal option for our family after long days sightseeing. It was wonderful to step outside and immediately have access to food and shops, saving us lots of travel time.
While the location was excellent, we did notice a few drawbacks with the room. As expected for Hong Kong accommodation, the family room felt a little small. There was limited floor space once our luggage was unpacked, and moving around was a bit tight. The bunk bed was also not as practical as we hoped. Climbing up and down the double-deck bed was awkward, especially for the older family members in our group. It saved space, but convenience was compromised.
On the bright side, the cleanliness, service and location all deserve full marks. The room was immaculately cleaned every day, and the hotel staff were polite, helpful and responsive whenever we needed assistance. The amenities were solid overall, though there is room for minor improvements.
For families prioritising convenience and location, BP International is a great pick. If you are okay with a compact room and a less convenient bunk bed, this hotel offers amazing access to West Kowloon and all the nearby sights and restaurants. Pros: During the peak summer season, the price is quite good value for money, and they offer family triple rooms. If you want to experience authentic Hong Kong local life, you can book this hotel. There are also many local eateries nearby. The room space is quite large, and there's a sink right by the entrance, which is convenient for washing things. The bay window provides good natural light. In terms of transportation, both buses and the MTR are conveniently located within 500 meters, making it quick to get to the Yau Tsim Mong area. There are also tram terminals and the Chun Yeung Street tram stop nearby. Food deliveries are left directly on the counter at the hotel lobby's group reception. Staff will ask for verification when you pick up your order, so they do a good job with security.
Cons: There are many seafood shops around the hotel, so it's inevitable that the hotel lobby, both inside and out, smells of seafood. However, the smell disappears once you go upstairs. The bathroom is quite small, making showering a bit cramped. The room does not provide drinking water or toiletries like toothbrushes (I looked it up, and Hong Kong has a plastic restriction policy). Traveling from Xiamen to Hong Kong, it seems that due to environmental protection policies, hotels in Hong Kong no longer provide disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste. This hotel is conveniently located next to Prince Edward MTR Station, making transportation easy. There are also many shops nearby, which is great for shopping. The room was larger than expected; we, a family of three, chose a king-sized bed (1.8m), and the movable sofa could be used as a barrier next to it. Overall, it was quiet, but when actually sleeping, the air conditioner seemed a bit loud – something that could be improved. There were earplugs in the room, but I wasn't sure if they were complimentary since it wasn't specified, so I didn't use them. A universal adapter was provided. It would be even better if disposable slippers were offered for children. Check-in is after 3 PM; before that, you can only store your luggage. It would be nice if early check-in or a later check-out around 2 or 3 PM were possible. The hotel staff were very friendly and patient, and could communicate in Mandarin. This is an old, established hotel in Hong Kong, and while it's been around for a while, its location and room size are definite strong points. The breakfast and evening cocktails at the Horizon Club offer exceptional value and quality, especially for Hong Kong.
Tony, who handled our check-in on the 20th floor of the Horizon Club, left a particularly deep and positive impression. His professionalism and service attitude were outstanding, perfectly showcasing the expertise and high standards expected of a five-star hotel employee. His gentle smile and warm demeanor truly enhanced our trip to Hong Kong.
However, there were also some negative experiences. On September 7th, a young female usher at the breakfast restaurant on the second floor had a very cold attitude. After we told her our room number in Chinese, she acted as if she didn't understand. Only after we repeated it in English did she acknowledge us, leading us to our table expressionlessly. Ironically, when she asked what we wanted to drink, she spoke fluent Chinese.
I lived in London for two years, and even British service staff wouldn't have an attitude like hers. Furthermore, Hong Kong has been reunited with China for 20 years; if she can't even understand a room number, it suggests she's not suited for service work in a hotel. I don't understand why the Shangri-La Hong Kong would employ such staff. I will also be sending an email to Shangri-La headquarters to complain.

On the day of check-in, we arrived at the hotel in the morning and immediately told the front desk staff that we needed laundry service and wanted to hand over our clothes right away. It was 10 AM at the time, and the hotel front desk also charged me a credit card deposit of 6000 RMB. However, the front desk refused to accept our clothes for washing, stating that we were only staying for two nights, from September 7th to 9th. He claimed that it would be impossible to return our cleaned clothes by the 9th. The four of us took turns asking him if he could provide a specific time for the return of our clean clothes on the 9th, but he kept saying he didn't know the time and ultimately refused to take our laundry. That evening, we returned to the hotel at 10 PM and got our room key. Upon entering the room, we saw a notice about the laundry service, which clearly stated that clothes submitted before 9 AM would be returned the same evening, and clothes submitted after 9 AM would be returned the next day. We immediately called the front desk to complain and then went downstairs to speak with the so-called duty manager that night. He promised to give us a response regarding this matter the next day. Excellent stay at Hotel ICON. The service was outstanding from start to finish: attentive, professional, and always available to help.
The room was modern, very comfortable, and perfectly maintained, with an excellent bed and a magnificent view of Victoria Harbour. The thoughtful touches, as well as the quality of the room service and concierge, really made a difference.
The breakfast also deserves a special mention: a huge selection, excellent quality, beautiful presentation, and many different options. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I've had during my trip.
The pool is superb, with an impressive view that truly allows you to experience Hong Kong in a different way. The common areas are elegant, modern, and immaculately maintained. I also really liked the hotel's design, especially the spectacular green wall and the lobby's architecture.
Despite its level of luxury, the hotel maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere rather than feeling cold or impersonal. This is precisely what distinguishes a very good hotel from a truly memorable stay.

I was visiting relatives, and this hotel was conveniently located near their home. It cost 650 for one night during the summer holidays, and the room was about 10-15 square meters. The hotel's location wasn't hard to find, and the front desk is on the third floor. They don't offer breakfast, so I wandered around and eventually found a 'Zhong Kee Congee Shop' on the main road after a few turns, about 300 meters from the hotel. The location is fantastic - there are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as metro station, bus and tram stops, plus a bus to the airport.
We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which offered a wide variety of food. The view from the 18th floor was fine, and the blackout curtains did an excellent job of blocking out the light. I could not hear any traffic noise from the road.
A one-time afternoon tea was included in the booking. There is also a little station in the lobby where you can make DIY cards using the stamps.
One thing we missed was some focused lighting near the head of the bed, such as bedside lamps. It would also be nice to have a full-length mirror in the room, perhaps on the outside of the bathroom door.
The staff were polite and helpful, and they assisted us with calling a taxi on a rainy morning. We also appreciated the fact that no deposit was required.
The air-conditioning system looks rather unusual. On the first night, we found it difficult to fall asleep because of the noise, but after that we adjusted to it, and it no longer bothered us.
We had no complaints about the overall cleanliness of the room, and housekeeping was provided daily. The only thing that disappointed us slightly was that the bathtub did not appear to have been cleaned during our six-night stay. The toilet was always clean and well maintained, but when two people use a bathtub regularly for almost a week, residue builds up quite quickly and requires proper cleaning products. We would therefore suggest paying a little more attention to cleaning the bathtub as part of the daily housekeeping.
Apart from that, we had no complaints. We enjoyed my stay, would happily stay here again, and would recommend the hotel to others!FromKRW 100,810
