What is a Hong Kong Visa for Indian Travellers?

Indian citizens travelling to Hong Kong for a short duration, for example, a business meeting or holiday, do not need a Hong Kong visa.
Pre-Arrival Registration (PAR)
- You must complete Pre-Arrival Registration (PAR) to visit visa-free for 14 days. Without the PAR slip, you will not be allowed to enter the HKSAR.
- The PAR is valid for multiple entries for six months. It allows Indian travellers to make multiple short visits without needing to register every time.
- Important Note: PAR is not an official visa. A Hong Kong Pre-arrival Registration (PAR) is a free, fast online digital authorisation for Indian passport holders that allows them visa-free short visits up to 14 days. On the other hand, a standard Hong Kong visa requires detailed documentation, processing time, and fees. It is mandatory for long stays, employment, or if the applicant is ineligible for PAR.
When Will Indian Travellers Require a Hong Kong Visa?
As an Indian passport holder, if you are travelling to Hong Kong for reasons beyond tourism or short business meetings, for instance, employment or study, you will need a Hong Kong visa.
Visa Extension
Indian travellers who intend to stay beyond 14 days can apply for an extension with Hong Kong’s Immigration Department. However, the Immigration Department does not guarantee the approval of extension.
Hong Kong Visa for Indian Travellers Eligibility Criteria
Indian passport holders must apply for and complete pre-arrival registration online before they can visit HKSAR visa-free. Indian nationals who are in direct air transit and not leaving the airport transit area do not need Pre-arrival Registration. They can use the online service to apply for pre-arrival registration free of charge if they:
- Hold an Indian passport valid for at least six months.
- Want to visit or transit (except in direct air transit without leaving the airport transit area) the HKSAR for a stay that doesn’t exceed 14 days.
Pre-arrival registration does not apply to Indian nationals who have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong, are on unconditional stay in Hong Kong or have a valid permission to remain in Hong Kong for employment, study or residence.
Subject to meeting normal immigration conditions, some categories of Indian nationals may visit Hong Kong without PAR. These include:
- Holders of a valid Indian diplomatic or official passport.
- Holders of a UN Laissez-Passer coming to Hong Kong or transiting Hong Kong to/from a third place for official UN business.

Documents Required for a Hong Kong Visa/PAR for Indian Travellers

Requirements vary slightly by visa type. But generally, you will need:
- A valid Indian passport with a minimum of 6 months’ validity from your date of entry.
- A recent passport-size photograph.
- Confirmed return or onward flight tickets.
- Proof of accommodation.
- Proof of adequate funds to cover your stay (the application commonly requires bank statements).
- A duly filled visa application form (for full visa applications only).
For Business Visits: An invitation letter from the host company in Hong Kong
For Employment or Student Visas: Extra documents such as the job contract, bank statements, savings passbooks or scholarship letters showing sufficient funds to cover tuition and living costs without working, and a sponsorship letter, or an admission letter from the educational institution.

It was a great cruise. One drink is included in the ticket price. But it seems a bit overpriced, and other boats are cheaper, but the experience is the same. I'm not sure about that, though; I'll have to check.

Applying for a Hong Kong Visa for Indians - General Procedures

Image Source: Hong Kong Immigration Department
Visit the GovHK Website
- The first step is to visit the GovHK website to complete the pre-arrival registration.
- You should enter the correct information truthfully. The information should fully match the information in your Indian passport.
Registration Processing
- After entering the required information, the system auto-processes the registration. Once processed, you will instantly receive the registration result.
- After applying for the registration, you must print the “Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration for Indian Nationals” (the notification slip) that the computer system generates on a blank sheet of A4 white paper.
Sign the Notification Slip
- Next, you must sign the notification slip.
- However, before signing it, you must check the data you’ve entered on the notification slip to confirm its accuracy as per the passport.
Use the Notification Slip
- Further, you must use the notification slip in conjunction with the specific Indian passport linked to the pre-arrival registration.
Important Points to Remember
- If you renew or replace your passport or change your personal particulars after pre-arrival registration, you must re-apply based on the new passport or personal particulars.
- For applicants under 16 years of age, either their parent or legal guardian must check the entered data and sign the slip.
- If you couldn’t complete the pre-arrival registration, you must apply for an entry visa to the Immigration Department directly.
Is there a Hong Kong Visa-on-Arrival for Indians?

- Hong Kong does not offer visa-on-arrival for Indian passport holders. Therefore, you cannot land in Hong Kong and get a visa stamped at the airport.
- Instead, you must complete Pre-Arrival Registration before departure.
- Once it is approved, you must print the notification slip, carry it with your passport, and present both at immigration counters when you arrive.
- Hence, often, people mistakenly think of PAR as "visa on arrival". The actual clearance happens on arrival. However, the registration must be done beforehand, ideally a few days before your flight.

This was my first hotel in Hong Kong, and I experienced Typhoon Signal No. 9 during my stay. The next day, I had to board a cruise, so I was quite worried about the transportation arrangements. The concierge team was outstanding—they proactively checked the latest travel information, kept me updated, and even escorted me to the cruise check-in point. Their professionalism, kindness, and exceptional service made me feel well taken care of during a stressful situation. I truly appreciate their support, and it was one of the most memorable parts of my stay. Highly recommended!FromMXN$2,497

## Facilities
1. As an established five-star hotel, I was pleased to find that the shower wasn't the kind where you have to stand in a bathtub, which I often encountered during previous stays in Hong Kong.
2. The bathroom has a direct drinking water tap, and the water tastes good, so I could easily refill my mineral water bottles.
3. There's a luggage rack in the room, which saves you from bending over to access your suitcase.
4. Hooks on both sides of the bathroom door are very convenient, and the toilet is a smart bidet model.
## Cleanliness
The room was spotless and tidy, very satisfied.
## Environment
1. The location is excellent, near the Tsim Sha Tsui East MTR Exit P2 and close to the Shangri-La Hotel. I feel this hotel offers better value for money. From my room, 719, I could look down and see the dining area on the 3rd floor, which was quite interesting and cleverly designed.
2. It's also close to the Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Science Museum, and Victoria Harbour.
## Service
The service was excellent. The doorman promptly opened the door, the front desk attendant spoke fluent Mandarin, the concierge was enthusiastic, and the ladies maintaining the restrooms in the 3rd-floor common area were all very kind.
## Overall
This was a very satisfying stay, without a single flaw. I will definitely choose The Royal Garden Hotel again on my next visit to Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.FromMXN$2,123

Mong Kok's travel ceiling! Royal Plaza Hotel made my entire Hong Kong trip comfortable and healing.
I stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel throughout my self-guided trip to Hong Kong, and the overall experience far exceeded my expectations. I simply must write a detailed review.
The room was cleaned daily by dedicated staff, with impeccable hygiene control. The entire room was spotless, clean, and comfortable. The butler service was highly responsive and efficient; when I needed cutlery, it was delivered to the room instantly, which was very thoughtful. Every evening, I like to relax with a bath. The bathtub was clean and odorless. After a tiring day of travel, a hot bath washed away all the fatigue. Downstairs, there's direct access to Mui Wah Bing Tang, offering authentic Hong Kong-style food readily available and delicious, making dining out extremely convenient.
What surprised me most was the location: the hotel is seamlessly connected to Grand Century Place, and Mong Kok East Station is right outside. Taking the MTR to major popular spots like Ocean Park, Disneyland, Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Causeway Bay was a breeze, with no need to worry about transportation. In Hong Kong, where space is at a premium, the rooms are spacious and wide, providing maximum comfort, suitable for both family trips and solo travelers.
Two small, heartwarming suggestions for the hotel's improvement:
Currently, the cutlery and bowls provided are a bit small. It was slightly inconvenient when I occasionally cooked Samyang Buldak noodles at night. If larger instant noodle bowls could be added, it would better cater to the needs of young guests. Also, if a stainless steel caddy could be installed on the bathtub, allowing for a glass of wine, aromatherapy, or a book while bathing, the ambiance and experience would be even better.
Overall, it's impeccable. Hardware, service, and location are all top-notch. I will prioritize choosing this hotel again for my next trip to Hong Kong. I sincerely recommend it to all visitors to Hong Kong!FromMXN$2,618

I stayed for three nights. On the first day, my flight was delayed by 4 hours, and I arrived at 4 AM. The front desk staff was on duty and processed my check-in quickly. The room had a direct drinking water tap, which was a nice touch. The room was also relatively spacious, and the windowsill had a soft padded cushion where you could sit or lie down. The bedding was a down comforter. Controls for lighting, air conditioning, and curtains were all push-button style, located on the bedside table, which was convenient. The location is excellent, just a few minutes' walk from Causeway Bay MTR Station Exit F1, very close to SOGO, and there are many dining options nearby. The hotel's Regal Palace restaurant is also outstanding.FromMXN$1,906

This time, I was given a room on the top floor. The air conditioning was quite noisy, and the soundproofing wasn't great. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend bringing earplugs. They don't provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, or combs, so you'll need to bring your own. The location is super convenient, just a short walk from Jordan Station Exit D. You can also easily walk to Donki and Victoria Harbour from the hotel. I often choose to stay here when I'm in town for concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum or to visit the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon, as it's all within walking distance.FromMXN$1,126

Comfortable Stay in a Great Location
We had a wonderful stay at Best Western Plus Hotel Kowloon in Tsim Sha Tsui. One of the things we appreciated most was its convenient location—everything we needed was within easy reach, from restaurants and convenience stores to MTR stations and popular attractions.
Our room was clean and comfortable, providing a nice place to rest after long days of exploring Hong Kong. The staff were friendly and helpful, and check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free.
What stood out to us was how easy it was to get around the city from the hotel. Whether we were heading to Disneyland, Victoria Harbour, or simply looking for good food nearby, the location made our trip much more enjoyable.
Overall, Best Western Plus TST offered great value for money and served as the perfect home base for our Hong Kong adventure. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit!FromMXN$1,250

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong|2.14km from city centre
I chose this hotel because I was traveling with my mother, and she has some mobility issues. Considering everything, it was a great choice. It's super convenient for getting around, with restaurants, supermarkets, snack shops, and shopping all right outside. The metro and airport shuttle are also incredibly close, just a 2-3 minute walk away. The room was spacious enough to open two 26-inch suitcases and a smaller one, and it even had a mini-fridge. The only downside was that there's only one elevator that goes through the entire building, so you might have to wait during peak hours. But honestly, for this price and location, I think that's a minor detail worth overlooking! 🤣FromMXN$2,075

The room wasn't very big, and the facilities were a bit dated. Daily cleaning was done promptly as requested, but the overall hygiene was just okay. The main advantage is its excellent location for getting around, being close to the University of Hong Kong and my child's dorm. This is especially convenient for older guests, as both walking and taking public transport are easy. The surrounding small restaurants and coffee shops offer great food, and the hotel's daily breakfast was very light and tasty. Getting to and from the airport, or going shopping in Central to see the sea view, is super convenient by MTR or bus (the picture below shows the sea view near IFC in Central). From a budget-friendly perspective, it offers great value for money.FromMXN$1,118

Excellent experience. We arrived early and there were a lot of people checking in, but the front desk quickly arranged a room for us. Although we didn't get a twin room, the front desk attendant found a room with a 2-meter king-size bed for us, so kudos to her! 👍 We stayed on the 16th floor for four nights, and our housekeeper, Sister Ling, was incredibly friendly. Whenever I'm in Sha Tin, I stay at ALVA HOTEL BY AKOYA. This time, I had a long-term stay, about a month.
**Facilities:** Relatively new, not as old as other hotels in the same price range.
**Environment:** For Hong Kong, the room is quite spacious, and the layout is comfortable.
**Hygiene:** Daily cleaning is prompt and thorough, and amenities are replaced frequently.
**Service:** The hotel management is strict, and overall it's pretty good. The female staff at the front desk are gentle and friendly, but some male staff can be arrogant and overbearing, speaking unpleasantly and giving off an 'if you don't like it, don't stay' vibe, which is off-putting.FromMXN$1,560

The location is fantastic, right next to Tin Hau, in a very local neighborhood. It's quiet but not isolated, and if my booking hadn't been non-refundable, I would have definitely extended my stay.
There are great food options nearby, like Wah So's Clear Broth Beef Brisket and the Black Sesame Ice Cream from Warm Heart Cheese.
The service attitude, from the lobby to the doorman, was very kind and friendly.
The room was small but had everything you needed. The bed was a bit short though, my 170cm kid's feet were hanging off the end! But overall, it was a good stay.FromMXN$1,570

Location: About a 5-minute walk from Wan Chai MTR station, with excellent bus connections, making transportation quite convenient. There are also plenty of dining options nearby.
Service: The front desk and room service staff were very kind and patient during check-in. When I called the front desk from my room for service, there was no discrimination against Mandarin speakers. The complimentary bottled water was a huge plus, especially on such a hot day.
Cleanliness: The interior of the guest room and the hotel lobby were clean and well-maintained. The cleaning staff were also very nice.
Facilities: Oh, the Wi-Fi in the room was a bit elusive with a poor signal. However, the air conditioning was very powerful, and the bedding was fantastic. I had a very comfortable stay in my king-size room.

I had a pleasant stay. The hotel's location is excellent, with convenient transportation—the MTR, ferry terminal, and bus stops are right downstairs, and the airport shuttle goes directly to the hotel. It's not as noisy as some of the more popular areas. The sea view room offered a wide-open view. North Point Pier is right downstairs, and there are plenty of dining options on the nearby streets. The hotel even thoughtfully provided vouchers for local snacks, which was a nice personal touch. The room's cleanliness was impeccable, and the bedding was comfortable. The room size is acceptable; for Hong Kong, it's pretty good, as I'm used to smaller spaces here. The power outlets were at the foot of the bed, and I initially thought there was only one, but then I found a whole strip on the desk, hidden behind a panel. Remember to bring your own universal adapter. The air conditioning was a bit noisy. Also, bring your own toothbrush; I didn't see any provided. I'm sure the front desk would supply one if asked, but they were quite busy (though their service was excellent and very friendly), and since I had my own, I didn't bother asking about toothpaste and toothbrushes. The hairdryer looked unassuming but dried my hair surprisingly fast. The location is super close to a bus stop, and there's a 7-Eleven downstairs. This has been my go-to hotel in Hong Kong for years. It's located inside The Mira Place shopping mall on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, less than a 10-minute walk to Harbour City, making it super convenient for dining, shopping, and entertainment.
The hotel entrance is a bit hidden, but as soon as you approach, someone will open the door for you. Even at 3 PM, you might not get a clean room right away, which shows how popular it is. The only thing missing is a bit of warmth in the service. The rooms come with complimentary bottled water, though they're a bit stingy with tissues. Aside from the pillows being just okay, everything else is quite comfortable.

In the evening, we saw the dreamy, romantic Victoria Harbour that I'd always longed for! For any travel questions we had, the concierge answered them one by one. They even pulled out a map of Hong Kong, meticulously circled points of interest with a pen, and wrote down transportation details and routes! Superb Hong Kong, and a superb hotel.FromMXN$5,750

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong|2.78km from city centre
I specifically chose to stay at the Rosewood Hong Kong, a benchmark for luxury hotels in the city, and overall, it met my expectations, with only a minor disappointment regarding the bathrobe.
The room layout was spacious and bright, with large floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the complete Victoria Harbour skyline. The daytime scene of blue seas and boats, and the nighttime spectacle of countless city lights, each had their own unique charm. The entire room featured high-quality wood furnishings and plaid soft decor. The walk-in closet offered ample storage, and the dual showers and scenic bathtub were top-notch. Amenities like toiletries, TWG tea sets, and Nespresso coffee machines were thoughtfully provided. The turndown service each evening included an aromatherapy scent and a small snack, showing exceptional attentiveness.
Service was consistently excellent throughout my stay. The concierge and butler were friendly, professional, and promptly responded to any requests. Breakfast offered both buffet and à la carte options, with high-quality Hong Kong-style Nissin Demae Itcho, desserts, and fresh fruits. The high-altitude infinity pool directly overlooks the sea; it was quiet and uncrowded, making for a perfectly relaxing swim. Direct access to K11 Musea downstairs made shopping and getting around incredibly convenient.
The only minor flaw was the quality of the bathrobes in the room. The fabric felt rather thin, lacking the softness and plushness found in bathrobes at other luxury hotels in the same category. This was a stark contrast to the otherwise exquisite and luxurious amenities in the room. The experience would be even more perfect if the bathrobe material were upgraded.
Overall, the minor imperfection doesn't overshadow the many positives. It remains a must-stay hotel for sea views in Hong Kong, and I would definitely choose it again on my next visit.FromMXN$12,912

Sha Tin Hong Kong|7.52km from city centre
I forgot to take pictures of the room... It's a bit of a walk from Sha Tin Wai MTR station, about ten minutes, but the hotel itself is surrounded by many restaurants, making it easy to find food.
The hotel seems quite old, and some facilities show their age. The air conditioning is very noisy. Although I booked a double bed, it was actually just two soft single mattresses pushed together. The pillows were also very flat and soft, making it difficult to sleep. Adjusting the water temperature in the shower was a bit tricky.
Even without putting up the 'please clean' sign, towels were exchanged daily.
For environmental reasons, the hotel doesn't provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, or power adapters for free. There was also no complimentary bottled water in the room upon check-in (though there is a tap with drinking water, so you can fill your own bottle). I recommend bringing your own.FromMXN$1,154

Our stay at The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong was an incredibly delightful and relaxing getaway.
The most striking feature of the room was undoubtedly the floor-to-ceiling window. The panoramic views of the magnificent seascape and lush green islands were simply breathtaking. Whether it was watching the shimmering ocean in the morning or simply relaxing on the window-side sofa in the afternoon, it was incredibly peaceful. Seeing my family leisurely admiring the sea view by the window, or my child comfortably sprawled on the spacious, soft bed watching cartoons, these moments of tranquility and relaxation are truly the most precious parts of a vacation.
The interior design of the guest room also deeply impressed me. The overall color scheme of warm light wood tones paired with soft Morandi green created a natural yet sophisticated ambiance. The space was bright and spacious with excellent flow. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, offering just the right balance of support and softness, ensuring a perfect night's sleep. The in-room amenities were complete and modern, with an oversized wall-mounted TV providing great entertainment for the kids.
In summary, The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel not only boasts unparalleled ocean views but also demonstrates a high standard in room design and comfort. It's perfectly suited for family trips or travelers looking to escape the city's hustle and bustle for some rest and relaxation. This is definitely a high-quality hotel I would love to visit again.FromMXN$3,017

Had a fantastic stay at the Best Western Plus Hotel Causeway Bay! The location is superb, just a few minutes' walk to Times Square and the MTR station, making shopping and dining incredibly convenient. The room was clean and tidy, and the night view from the high floor was stunning. The bedding was comfortable too. The front desk staff were warm and efficient, even providing a free adapter. Overall, it's excellent value for money, and I'll definitely choose this hotel again on my next trip to Hong Kong!FromMXN$1,058

Tsuen Wan Hong Kong|7.43km from city centre
Conveniently located between two subway stations, with two shopping malls nearby that include supermarkets. Even if it rains, there are plenty of options without having to go outside. However, the hotel is a bit old and could use an upgrade, especially replacing the carpets. A water dispenser would also be a great addition.FromMXN$1,154

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong|2.55km from city centre
I was really happy to find such a high-end hotel in a bustling area like Tsim Sha Tsui, and the cleanliness of the facilities was outstanding! The whole decor was palace-style, and the toiletries were very luxurious. There wasn't any strange odor in the room, which even as a clean freak, I really appreciated! The mattress was incredibly comfortable, and the soundproofing was excellent; I could barely hear any street noise from downstairs. It's also just a five-minute walk to the Avenue of Stars, and there are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby. I'll definitely choose The Langham Hong Kong again on my next visit.FromMXN$4,448

HongKong International Airport Hong Kong|23.37km from city centre
We stayed here for 3 days and had a fantastic experience. The biggest selling point is the location—it’s literally a 5-minute shuttle ride from the airport (the hotel provides this for free!), and it’s only an 8- 10-minute walk there. There is also a scheduled shuttle to the MTR station. It made getting around HK so easy. You can go to the Indian restaurant close by for dinner, which we did with no regrets. Delicious food( walking distance from the hotel).
The pool was a great way to unwind, and the breakfast buffet had plenty of delicious options to start the day. The room was clean and comfortable.
Minor note for travellers: The plugs are different from overseas, so bring an adapter! We could not charge our phones. The morning we were leaving, we found a USB port in a corner. They give you one large refillable water bottle (you fill it yourself on the floor), but if you want to keep the bottle, it’s 80HKD.
Everything else was excellent. Highly recommend for anyone with an early flight or layover!FromMXN$1,121

Wan Chai and Causeway Bay Hong Kong|4.73km from city centre
It's an older hotel with a rich sense of history. I found the Wi-Fi speed to be quite slow, but everything else was fine. There's a restaurant on the ground floor, Chen's Kitchen, which serves a good breakfast. It was HKD 150 for two people, and definitely worth trying.FromMXN$1,073
