Hong Kong Ocean Park

Hong Kong Ocean Park sits on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island, combining a marine theme park, zoo, and amusement park all in one hillside location. The park is split between a lower waterfront area and an upper summit area connected by cable car and a funicular train, giving visitors views of the South China Sea alongside animal exhibits and thrill rides. It balances entertainment with conservation education, housing giant pandas, penguins, sharks, and hundreds of other species alongside roller coasters and water rides.

After not visiting for many years, I returned this time and it seemed a bit more rundown, but not terrible. There were fewer people too. But for the ticket price of 1,5xx baht, it's not expensive and worth it.

Where is Ocean Park Hong Kong & How to Get There

MTR (Most Recommended)

Take the South Island Line to Ocean Park Station. Exit B leads directly to the park’s main entrance, about a 3-minute walk. From Admiralty Station (connected to Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line, and East Rail Line), the ride to Ocean Park takes around 10 minutes. This is the most reliable option and avoids traffic.

Bus

Several bus routes stop near Ocean Park:

  • Route 629 runs from Central (Star Ferry) directly to Ocean Park main entrance (limited service)
  • Routes 260, 65, 73, 973 and others stop at the Ocean Park bus stop on Wong Chuk Hang Road
Fares and schedules vary by route. Bus rides take longer than the MTR but can be cheaper if you are coming from certain areas.

Taxi & Private Car

A taxi from Central or Causeway Bay takes about 10–15 minutes depending on traffic, and costs roughly HK$80–120. The park has a public car park with over 1,000 spaces, but it fills up quickly on weekends and holidays. Parking fees apply.

This is the third time I've purchased an airport express ticket through the Trip app, and it's still as good as ever. This time, I got a buy-one-get-one-free promotion, which was half the price of buying it on-site. It was a fantastic experience and a great price. I could take the bus directly to the airport without exchanging tickets, and it only took 20 minutes. I will definitely buy tickets through the Trip app again in the future!

Attractions to See at Ocean Park Hong Kong

Attractions to See at Ocean Park Hong Kong

The park is split into two main sections, and each has its own standout attractions.

Waterfront (Lower Area)

  • Grand Aquarium (Ocean Wonders): The park’s largest aquarium, with a giant viewing panel and a walk-through tunnel holding thousands of fish, rays, and sharks across hundreds of species. It’s one of the first stops most people make after entering.
Attractions to See at Ocean Park Hong Kong
  • Giant Panda Adventure: Home to the park’s giant pandas, red pandas, and other Asian animal species. The indoor exhibit stays cool, and the pandas are most active earlier in the day.
  • Whiskers Harbour: A family-focused zone with gentle rides, a carousel, and play areas for younger children.
  • Amazing Asian Animals: Features smaller animal exhibits including otters, birds, and reptiles native to the region.
Attractions to See at Ocean Park Hong Kong

Summit (Upper Area)

  • Polar Adventure: Houses penguins, Arctic foxes, seals, and other cold-climate animals in a temperature-controlled indoor habitat. Note that the North Pole section is under renovation until 2027.
  • Thrill Mountain: The park’s main thrill ride zone, with roller coasters, pendulum rides, and other high-speed attractions for older visitors.
  • Rainforest Adventure: A tropical-themed area with a river rapids ride (you will get wet) and exhibits of rainforest animals like monkeys, capybaras, and tropical birds.
  • Marine World: Includes the Shark Mystique exhibit, the Ferris wheel, and the Ocean Tower observation deck with 360-degree views of the surrounding coast.

What to Do at Ocean Park Hong Kong

What to Do at Ocean Park Hong Kong

There’s more to do here than just walk past exhibits. These are the key activities to plan into your day:

  • Catch the scheduled animal shows and feeding demonstrations. The dolphin and sea lion show at Ocean Theatre is the most well-known, and there are also scheduled feeding sessions for penguins, meerkats, and other species. Times are posted at the park entrance and on the official app, so check them first when you arrive.
  • Take the two signature transport rides between park zones. The cable car offers open-air views over the ocean and hillside, and it’s one of the most photographed parts of the park. The Ocean Express funicular train is faster and fully enclosed, which is useful on hot or rainy days. Both are included with standard admission.
What to Do at Ocean Park Hong Kong
  • Join seasonal and interactive programs. The park runs themed events throughout the year, including summer water activities, Halloween haunted attractions, and Christmas light displays. There are also paid animal encounter programs where you can get closer to pandas, penguins, or dolphins with a keeper guide.
  • Eat and shop at themed locations across the park. There are sit-down restaurants with sea views, casual snack stands serving local-style food, and souvenir shops selling panda and ocean-themed merchandise. You can also bring your own light snacks and water, which I recommend to save money and time.

Best Time to Visit Ocean Park Hong Kong

Best Time to Visit Ocean Park Hong Kong

For weather and crowd comfort, the best months to visit are October through March. Temperatures are cooler and humidity is lower, which makes walking between outdoor attractions much more pleasant. Visibility is also better during these months, so the cable car and summit views are clearer.

If you want the smallest crowds, go on a weekday outside of school holidays and public holidays. Arrive right at 10:00 AM when the park opens — popular rides and animal exhibits have the shortest wait times in the first two hours. Animals are also more active in the morning, especially the pandas and penguins.

I recommend avoiding July and August if possible. Summer is hot, humid, and often rainy, with occasional typhoons that can close outdoor rides. It’s also peak tourist season, so wait times for popular attractions can exceed an hour. If you do visit in summer, plan indoor exhibits for the midday heat and save outdoor rides for early morning or late afternoon.

What Not to Bring to Ocean Park Hong Kong

Ocean Park conducts bag checks at all entrances, and these items are not allowed inside:

  • Alcoholic beverages of any kind
  • Food with strong or pungent odors that may disturb animals or other guests
  • Glass containers and glass bottles (plastic water bottles are fine)
  • Loose ice, dry ice, and any cooking or heating equipment
  • Dangerous items, weapons, fireworks, and flammable liquids
  • Drones and other remote-controlled devices
  • Pets and other animals (service animals are allowed with prior notice)
  • Bags, suitcases, or coolers larger than 56cm × 36cm × 23cm

You may bring reasonable amounts of personal food and non-alcoholic drinks for your own consumption, as well as baby food and formula. Large luggage can be stored at the baggage rental counter near the main entrance for a fee.

Ocean Park Hong Kong Visiting Tips

Ocean Park Hong Kong Visiting Tips

Buy your tickets online in advance directly from the official website or authorized sellers. This saves you from waiting in ticket lines at the entrance, and online prices are often lower than walk-up rates.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. The park covers a large hillside area with a lot of stairs and slopes, and you will walk several kilometers over the course of a day.

Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light raincoat or foldable umbrella. Hong Kong weather can change quickly, and much of the park is outdoors. For the rapids ride in the rainforest zone, a cheap disposable rain poncho will keep you drier than an umbrella.

If you want to skip the cable car line on the way up, take the Ocean Express first and save the cable car for your trip down. The cable car line is usually shorter in the late afternoon, and you’ll get golden-hour light for photos.

Check the daily show schedule as soon as you enter, and arrive 10–15 minutes early for popular shows to get a seat. Shows fill up quickly on weekends and holidays.

Carry a reusable water bottle. There are water refill stations around the park, and bottled water inside is expensive.

It's far less crowded than Disneyland in Japan, and even the longest wait times are only around 50 minutes. The park is also quite small, so I was able to visit all the attractions and areas in one day! It comes with an 80 Hong Kong dollar meal coupon that can be used at restaurants. This was my first hotel in Hong Kong, and I experienced Typhoon Signal No. 9 during my stay. The next day, I had to board a cruise, so I was quite worried about the transportation arrangements. The concierge team was outstanding—they proactively checked the latest travel information, kept me updated, and even escorted me to the cruise check-in point. Their professionalism, kindness, and exceptional service made me feel well taken care of during a stressful situation. I truly appreciate their support, and it was one of the most memorable parts of my stay. Highly recommended!

## Facilities 1. As an established five-star hotel, I was pleased to find that the shower wasn't the kind where you have to stand in a bathtub, which I often encountered during previous stays in Hong Kong. 2. The bathroom has a direct drinking water tap, and the water tastes good, so I could easily refill my mineral water bottles. 3. There's a luggage rack in the room, which saves you from bending over to access your suitcase. 4. Hooks on both sides of the bathroom door are very convenient, and the toilet is a smart bidet model. ## Cleanliness The room was spotless and tidy, very satisfied. ## Environment 1. The location is excellent, near the Tsim Sha Tsui East MTR Exit P2 and close to the Shangri-La Hotel. I feel this hotel offers better value for money. From my room, 719, I could look down and see the dining area on the 3rd floor, which was quite interesting and cleverly designed. 2. It's also close to the Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Science Museum, and Victoria Harbour. ## Service The service was excellent. The doorman promptly opened the door, the front desk attendant spoke fluent Mandarin, the concierge was enthusiastic, and the ladies maintaining the restrooms in the 3rd-floor common area were all very kind. ## Overall This was a very satisfying stay, without a single flaw. I will definitely choose The Royal Garden Hotel again on my next visit to Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

Mong Kok's travel ceiling! Royal Plaza Hotel made my entire Hong Kong trip comfortable and healing. I stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel throughout my self-guided trip to Hong Kong, and the overall experience far exceeded my expectations. I simply must write a detailed review. The room was cleaned daily by dedicated staff, with impeccable hygiene control. The entire room was spotless, clean, and comfortable. The butler service was highly responsive and efficient; when I needed cutlery, it was delivered to the room instantly, which was very thoughtful. Every evening, I like to relax with a bath. The bathtub was clean and odorless. After a tiring day of travel, a hot bath washed away all the fatigue. Downstairs, there's direct access to Mui Wah Bing Tang, offering authentic Hong Kong-style food readily available and delicious, making dining out extremely convenient. What surprised me most was the location: the hotel is seamlessly connected to Grand Century Place, and Mong Kok East Station is right outside. Taking the MTR to major popular spots like Ocean Park, Disneyland, Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Causeway Bay was a breeze, with no need to worry about transportation. In Hong Kong, where space is at a premium, the rooms are spacious and wide, providing maximum comfort, suitable for both family trips and solo travelers. Two small, heartwarming suggestions for the hotel's improvement: Currently, the cutlery and bowls provided are a bit small. It was slightly inconvenient when I occasionally cooked Samyang Buldak noodles at night. If larger instant noodle bowls could be added, it would better cater to the needs of young guests. Also, if a stainless steel caddy could be installed on the bathtub, allowing for a glass of wine, aromatherapy, or a book while bathing, the ambiance and experience would be even better. Overall, it's impeccable. Hardware, service, and location are all top-notch. I will prioritize choosing this hotel again for my next trip to Hong Kong. I sincerely recommend it to all visitors to Hong Kong!

I stayed for three nights. On the first day, my flight was delayed by 4 hours, and I arrived at 4 AM. The front desk staff was on duty and processed my check-in quickly. The room had a direct drinking water tap, which was a nice touch. The room was also relatively spacious, and the windowsill had a soft padded cushion where you could sit or lie down. The bedding was a down comforter. Controls for lighting, air conditioning, and curtains were all push-button style, located on the bedside table, which was convenient. The location is excellent, just a few minutes' walk from Causeway Bay MTR Station Exit F1, very close to SOGO, and there are many dining options nearby. The hotel's Regal Palace restaurant is also outstanding.

This time, I was given a room on the top floor. The air conditioning was quite noisy, and the soundproofing wasn't great. If you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend bringing earplugs. They don't provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, or combs, so you'll need to bring your own. The location is super convenient, just a short walk from Jordan Station Exit D. You can also easily walk to Donki and Victoria Harbour from the hotel. I often choose to stay here when I'm in town for concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum or to visit the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon, as it's all within walking distance.

Comfortable Stay in a Great Location We had a wonderful stay at Best Western Plus Hotel Kowloon in Tsim Sha Tsui. I chose this hotel because I was traveling with my mother, and she has some mobility issues. Considering everything, it was a great choice. It's super convenient for getting around, with restaurants, supermarkets, snack shops, and shopping all right outside. The metro and airport shuttle are also incredibly close, just a 2-3 minute walk away. The room was spacious enough to open two 26-inch suitcases and a smaller one, and it even had a mini-fridge. The only downside was that there's only one elevator that goes through the entire building, so you might have to wait during peak hours. But honestly, for this price and location, I think that's a minor detail worth overlooking! 🤣

The room wasn't very big, and the facilities were a bit dated. Daily cleaning was done promptly as requested, but the overall hygiene was just okay. The main advantage is its excellent location for getting around, being close to the University of Hong Kong and my child's dorm. This is especially convenient for older guests, as both walking and taking public transport are easy. The surrounding small restaurants and coffee shops offer great food, and the hotel's daily breakfast was very light and tasty. Getting to and from the airport, or going shopping in Central to see the sea view, is super convenient by MTR or bus (the picture below shows the sea view near IFC in Central). This time, I had a long-term stay, about a month. **Facilities:** Relatively new, not as old as other hotels in the same price range. **Environment:** For Hong Kong, the room is quite spacious, and the layout is comfortable. **Hygiene:** Daily cleaning is prompt and thorough, and amenities are replaced frequently. **Service:** The hotel management is strict, and overall it's pretty good. The location is excellent, right outside Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, next to Harbour City, and very close to K11. The area is bustling with tourists and quite crowded. The hotel itself is also very popular and thus crowded with many guests. Lung Yat Heen, located on the second floor of the hotel, serves delicious food. The prices are a bit high, but hotel guests can get a 30% discount with a coupon.

I really like the location here. I usually stay at this hotel mainly because the staff are so well-mannered, polite, and enthusiastic whenever you encounter them. This time, the lobby staff on the first floor actively opened the door to welcome me every time I entered or left – and the housekeeping staff were incredibly responsible, contacting me in various ways to ensure timely cleaning! That day, it was pouring rain, and I was resting in my room 😴. The girl who checked me in this time was actually the same one who checked me in last time; it was so fun and heartwarming that we recognized each other without even trying! I've long considered the Metropark Hotel Kowloon my home in Hong Kong 🇭🇰!

We were a group of four and booked two rooms for three nights. The hotel assigned us rooms 2409 and 2413. Honestly, the hotel's location is great, very close to the subway station, which makes getting around super convenient. However, room 2413 was never cleaned and was incredibly noisy. We could hear singing, conversations, and even doors opening and closing next door. It was a really poor experience. Picture three shows room 2409, which was fine and cleaned daily. Picture four is the view from room 2409.

This hotel offers great value for money in Hong Kong, mainly due to its excellent location, making it a top choice for many tourists. The MTR station is right outside, providing easy access to various parts of the city. There are also buses directly outside the hotel that go to the airport and high-speed rail station, so transportation is absolutely fantastic. Plus, there are plenty of delicious food options nearby; you can just walk around and find recommended eateries everywhere. However, I'm not sure if it was because of the rainy season, but it felt a bit musty, and the bedsheets didn't seem very clean.

It's incredibly convenient to access the hotel lobby directly from the airport via a connecting walkway. The room temperature was pleasant, and the bedding quality was excellent. It's incredibly easy to get around from here, and there are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location! We upgraded to a sea-view room and the view was absolutely stunning. The concierge and cleaning staff were very attentive. The only downside is that the room feels a bit old, the air conditioning is noisy, and the bedding could be better quality.

North Point and Quarry Bay Hong Kong|4.26km from city centre
The room size is acceptable; for Hong Kong, it's pretty good, as I'm used to smaller spaces here. The power outlets were at the foot of the bed, and I initially thought there was only one, but then I found a whole strip on the desk, hidden behind a panel. Remember to bring your own universal adapter. The air conditioning was a bit noisy. Also, bring your own toothbrush; I didn't see any provided. I'm sure the front desk would supply one if asked, but they were quite busy (though their service was excellent and very friendly), and since I had my own, I didn't bother asking about toothpaste and toothbrushes. The hairdryer looked unassuming but dried my hair surprisingly fast. The location is super close to a bus stop, and there's a 7-Eleven downstairs. I walked to a nearby congee shop for a late-night snack, which was satisfying. Oh, and the coffee is free!

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong|2.13km from city centre
This has been my go-to hotel in Hong Kong for years. It's located inside The Mira Place shopping mall on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, less than a 10-minute walk to Harbour City, making it super convenient for dining, shopping, and entertainment. The hotel entrance is a bit hidden, but as soon as you approach, someone will open the door for you. Even at 3 PM, you might not get a clean room right away, which shows how popular it is. The only thing missing is a bit of warmth in the service. The rooms come with complimentary bottled water, though they're a bit stingy with tissues. Aside from the pillows being just okay, everything else is quite comfortable. If you're an early riser, you can head down to B3 for the gym and pool. The facilities are very well-maintained.

Beyond, beyond, beyond my expectations! Don't hesitate, just book it! I experienced the most premium and thoughtful service here. Check-in didn't even require a deposit. The front desk staff were incredibly polite, spoke softly, and were elegant and efficient in their actions. When we entered our room, an extra bed had already been added, making it comfortable for our family of three to sleep. This hotel truly provided the energy boost we needed for our Hong Kong trip! The location is superb; you can take the elevator directly from the left side of the hotel lobby straight to Victoria Harbour. In the evening, we saw the dreamy, romantic Victoria Harbour that I'd always longed for! For any travel questions we had, the concierge answered them one by one. They even pulled out a map of Hong Kong, meticulously circled points of interest with a pen, and wrote down transportation details and routes! Superb Hong Kong, and a superb hotel.

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong|2.78km from city centre
I specifically chose to stay at the Rosewood Hong Kong, a benchmark for luxury hotels in the city, and overall, it met my expectations, with only a minor disappointment regarding the bathrobe. The room layout was spacious and bright, with large floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the complete Victoria Harbour skyline. The daytime scene of blue seas and boats, and the nighttime spectacle of countless city lights, each had their own unique charm. The entire room featured high-quality wood furnishings and plaid soft decor. The walk-in closet offered ample storage, and the dual showers and scenic bathtub were top-notch. Amenities like toiletries, TWG tea sets, and Nespresso coffee machines were thoughtfully provided. The turndown service each evening included an aromatherapy scent and a small snack, showing exceptional attentiveness. Service was consistently excellent throughout my stay. The concierge and butler were friendly, professional, and promptly responded to any requests. Breakfast offered both buffet and à la carte options, with high-quality Hong Kong-style Nissin Demae Itcho, desserts, and fresh fruits. The high-altitude infinity pool directly overlooks the sea; it was quiet and uncrowded, making for a perfectly relaxing swim. Direct access to K11 Musea downstairs made shopping and getting around incredibly convenient. The only minor flaw was the quality of the bathrobes in the room. The fabric felt rather thin, lacking the softness and plushness found in bathrobes at other luxury hotels in the same category. This was a stark contrast to the otherwise exquisite and luxurious amenities in the room. The experience would be even more perfect if the bathrobe material were upgraded. Overall, the minor imperfection doesn't overshadow the many positives. It remains a must-stay hotel for sea views in Hong Kong, and I would definitely choose it again on my next visit.

Sha Tin Hong Kong|7.52km from city centre
I forgot to take pictures of the room... It's a bit of a walk from Sha Tin Wai MTR station, about ten minutes, but the hotel itself is surrounded by many restaurants, making it easy to find food. The hotel seems quite old, and some facilities show their age. The air conditioning is very noisy. Although I booked a double bed, it was actually just two soft single mattresses pushed together. The pillows were also very flat and soft, making it difficult to sleep. Adjusting the water temperature in the shower was a bit tricky. Even without putting up the 'please clean' sign, towels were exchanged daily. For environmental reasons, the hotel doesn't provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, or power adapters for free. There was also no complimentary bottled water in the room upon check-in (though there is a tap with drinking water, so you can fill your own bottle). I recommend bringing your own.

Our stay at The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong was an incredibly delightful and relaxing getaway. The most striking feature of the room was undoubtedly the floor-to-ceiling window. The panoramic views of the magnificent seascape and lush green islands were simply breathtaking. Whether it was watching the shimmering ocean in the morning or simply relaxing on the window-side sofa in the afternoon, it was incredibly peaceful. Seeing my family leisurely admiring the sea view by the window, or my child comfortably sprawled on the spacious, soft bed watching cartoons, these moments of tranquility and relaxation are truly the most precious parts of a vacation. The interior design of the guest room also deeply impressed me. The overall color scheme of warm light wood tones paired with soft Morandi green created a natural yet sophisticated ambiance. The space was bright and spacious with excellent flow. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, offering just the right balance of support and softness, ensuring a perfect night's sleep. The in-room amenities were complete and modern, with an oversized wall-mounted TV providing great entertainment for the kids. In summary, The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel not only boasts unparalleled ocean views but also demonstrates a high standard in room design and comfort. It's perfectly suited for family trips or travelers looking to escape the city's hustle and bustle for some rest and relaxation. This is definitely a high-quality hotel I would love to visit again.

Conveniently located between two subway stations, with two shopping malls nearby that include supermarkets. Even if it rains, there are plenty of options without having to go outside. However, the hotel is a bit old and could use an upgrade, especially replacing the carpets. A water dispenser would also be a great addition.

I was really happy to find such a high-end hotel in a bustling area like Tsim Sha Tsui, and the cleanliness of the facilities was outstanding! The whole decor was palace-style, and the toiletries were very luxurious. There wasn't any strange odor in the room, which even as a clean freak, I really appreciated! The mattress was incredibly comfortable, and the soundproofing was excellent; I could barely hear any street noise from downstairs. It's also just a five-minute walk to the Avenue of Stars, and there are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby. I'll definitely choose The Langham Hong Kong again on my next visit.

HongKong International Airport Hong Kong|23.37km from city centre
We stayed here for 3 days and had a fantastic experience. The biggest selling point is the location—it’s literally a 5-minute shuttle ride from the airport (the hotel provides this for free!), and it’s only an 8- 10-minute walk there. There is also a scheduled shuttle to the MTR station. It made getting around HK so easy. You can go to the Indian restaurant close by for dinner, which we did with no regrets. Delicious food( walking distance from the hotel). The pool was a great way to unwind, and the breakfast buffet had plenty of delicious options to start the day. The room was clean and comfortable. Minor note for travellers: The plugs are different from overseas, so bring an adapter! We could not charge our phones. The morning we were leaving, we found a USB port in a corner. They give you one large refillable water bottle (you fill it yourself on the floor), but if you want to keep the bottle, it’s 80HKD. Everything else was excellent. Highly recommend for anyone with an early flight or layover!

It's an older hotel with a rich sense of history. I found the Wi-Fi speed to be quite slow, but everything else was fine. There's a restaurant on the ground floor, Chen's Kitchen, which serves a good breakfast. It was HKD 150 for two people, and definitely worth trying.
